A Happy New Year, Right From the Start
by Patti Hermes

happy new year How to get the New Year off to a great start: throw away those Lose Weight resolutions. Try doing nothing, for a change.

I don't really mean for you to do absolutely nothing. What I mean is don't come up with a list of all your personal faults that you're going to change this year. Let's not focus on solving all your problems just yet. Try a different approach.

Instead, look in the mirror, smile and say "I love you just the way you are!" Out loud. Now say that to every member of your family, especially your children. (Oh go ahead, tell the dog, too.) Now encourage them to try the mirror trick themselves. Yes, even the teenagers in the house need to give it a try. Maybe the dog can show them how.

Smile. Laugh. Best of all, love.

Now that you've started the year off with a happy face (and if you didn't, feel free to go back to bed and try again), here's your first assignment. Do one nice thing for someone, anonymously, preferably someone who doesn't deserve it. If you can't think of anything, go donate blood if you're able. I'm sure there's someone out there that can use it.

My point is:

1. Make yourself happy.

2. Share your happiness with others, whether they like it or not.

3. Give of yourself, a kind word, a helping hand, whatever you have, with no expectations in return, not even a thank you.

Now, how do you feel? Have a Happy New Year!

Now get on that treadmill.
